This week we hear from Dr. Scott Porter, an Orthopedic Surgeon who specialized in treating cancer. He shares how he navigated medical school and the match process during the very beginning of the ERAS process. Over the years, he has chosen to practice in academics in-part so that he can give back and mentor the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Porter is a wealth of knowledge, which he freely shares.
Dr. Porter talks about his motivation to earn an MBA and how he uses it in his practice. He also put these skills to use when he started a non-profit organization called, “Just Cause Scrubs.” Visit their website to purchase scrubs from many different brands. At checkout, customers can choose a charitable organization to donate a portion of the proceeds from their purchase. Pay the same price for scrubs while helping others is a win-win scenario.
If you are interested in becoming an orthopedic surgeon, or are considering a career in academic medicine, then this episode is for you.
TBDPis a volunteer passion project with the goal of inspiring all who listen. In-house music and audio production, so any ideas for improvements or suggestions for future guests are welcome.
