Keys to a Successful Match and Navigating Residency as an URiM Minority

Keys to a Successful Match and Navigating Residency as an URiM Minority

Featuring Dr. Wilton Triggs , Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeon

This week Dr. Wilton Triggs joins us again to share his expriences at Meharry Medical College and successfully matching into Plastic Surgery. A common question we receive is, “are away rotations encouraged?” He shares the impact of going on multiple away rotations.

Dr. Triggs talks about selecting a program based upon “gut feeling”. We talk about his first job at a rural hospital as he collected cases for board certification. He has since moved to Miami and his practice has exploded!

  • Are you interested in pursuing an extremely competitive specialty?
  • Does your medical school lack opportunities to rotate in certain specialties?
  • How do you recognize and deal with racism and bias during residency?
  • Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a Plastic Surgeon in Miami?
