1: Reflection, Renewed Passion, and a Reboot of the Black Doctors Podcast

Welcome to Season 8 of the Black Doctors Podcast! In this episode, we celebrate the podcast’s three-year anniversary and express gratitude for the support and feedback from our listeners. Get ready for new episodes every Monday as we provide tools for success and work towards increasing diversity in the health professions.

Reflecting on the previous season’s challenges, we return with a renewed passion and commitment to a more regular schedule. Our album art, created by @PhysicianDoodles, captures the essence of our podcast. We’ve reached significant milestones, with over 150,000 downloads, and we appreciate the support of our subscribers.

In the second half of the episode, our host, Dr. Steven Bradley, reintroduces himself as an anesthesiologist and critical care physician. Growing up as a Navy brat, we initially considered a career in music but eventually chose medicine. Inspired by a friend’s transition from music to pre-med, we pursued a master’s program in anatomy and attended Howard University for medical school.

Navigating financial struggles, we highlight the challenges faced by HBCUs while emphasizing the support and value of being in an environment with people who share our background. Residency at the University of Chicago, networking, and military service further shaped our journey.

Throughout our story, we emphasize the importance of trusting the process, setting goals, and leveraging networks and social media. We encourage aspiring medical professionals to pursue their passions and recognize the investment required.

In the podcasting journey, we discuss accessibility, learning from mistakes, and the importance of understanding one’s “why.” We highlight the value of starting and improving along the way, even while facing challenges. Delegation and automation tools have been beneficial but continue to be areas of growth.

Maintaining our passion for the podcast, we acknowledge a period without uploading episodes or seeking sponsors. We want our listeners to know that the Black Doctors Podcast is driven by our desire to make a positive impact in the medical community.

Join us every Monday for new episodes as we share inspiring stories, provide insights into the medical field, and explore the journey of pursuing passion and self-discovery in medicine.
